A325 structural boltsStructural bolts are typically used for steel-to-steel applications. They differ from standard hex bolts by having a heavy hex head, which gives them a larger bearing surface. Structural bolts also have a larger unthreaded shank than hex cap screws of similar length.

A325, A490 and Tension Control Bolts

KD Fasteners, Inc.® supplies A325 and A490 heavy hex structural bolts and tension control bolts. Our structural bolt line includes import and USA-made parts.

Structural Bolts vs. Heavy Hex Bolts

Heavy hex bolts and structural bolts both have a larger head than a standard hex bolt. The difference is in the thread: structural bolts have shorter threads than heavy hex bolts, which leaves a larger unthreaded shank.

Heavy hex bolts are used for bridges, highways, buildings and other construction projects, and work with construction materials such as wood and steel. Structural bolts are typically used for steel-to-steel applications.

Structural Bolt Sizes, Finishes and Custom Options

Our standard structural bolts run from 1/2" to 1-1/2" in diameter. Specials can run up to 3" in diameter.

A325 structural bolts come in plain steel and hot-dip galvanized finishes. A490 structural bolts can't be galvanized, so we supply them in a plain finish.

Structural bolts are part of our custom bolt line. We can supply custom plating on request for grades that allow it, with options that include different colors of zinc, black oxide, waxing, passivation, nickel and more. Send us your grade and plating specs and we will quote them.

Heavy Hex Nuts and Washers for Structural Bolts

We can supply the heavy hex nuts and structural washers for your structural bolts as well. Heavy hex nuts are slightly wider and thicker than a standard hex nut and pair with large-diameter, high-strength heavy hex bolts. Heavy hex nut coatings include hot dipped galvanized, in inch and metric sizes from 1/4" to 4".

Our structural washers include F436 structural flat washers and beveled washers, which typically come in F436 material. Beveled washers are meant to be used with A325 and A490 structural bolts on beams or channels that do not run parallel. Our beveled washers start at 3/8" inside diameter and go up to 1", in plain and hot-dipped galvanized, with USA and import lines. Hardened F436 flat washers come in plain, zinc, zinc/yellow and hot-dipped galvanized.

For anchoring into concrete, see our anchor bolts, including wedge anchors.
