Why Specify Bronze Fasteners?
Most bronze fasteners are made from silicon bronze, a copper alloy containing 95% to 98% copper with a small amount of silicon and zinc added for strength. Silicon bronze is non-magnetic and has a high degree of thermal conductivity. It delivers strong corrosion resistance in harsh environments such as salt water and gases. That combination makes it a practical specification where stainless steel or coated steel will not hold up.
Bronze also develops a protective patina over time, preserving the structural integrity of the fastener without plating or additional coatings. That gives it a place in marine hardware, shipbuilding, electrical grounding, pump and valve assemblies, architectural work, and historical restoration projects.
